K9truckNET®

Many of us have witnessed the sight of a joyful dog riding in the back of a truck, with its fur blowing in the wind and a seemingly carefree expression. However, this seemingly innocent scene can have dire consequences. Dogs that jump or fall from the truck bed often suffer severe injuries or even death. Those fortunate enough to survive may face broken bones, joint damage, and, in some cases, the need for amputation.

America Humane Association

AHA - “100,000 dogs die each year riding in the back of pickup trucks by flying out after an accident, falling out accidentally, jumping out, or sliding out the back of an open tailgate.”

"Dogs have gotten lost or killed when they exited the pickup, and the owners didn't realize they were missing until they got home."

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine 360

DVM360 - "The greatest boom to veterinary orthopedics hasn't been antibiotics, anesthesia, or even surgical equipment, it's the pickup truck"

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

SPCA - Common injuries that can occur when dogs jump or fall from the back of pickup trucks and survive:

  • Head trauma
  • Shattered jaws
  • Broken limbs
  • Injuries to the large nerve bundle in the armpit, which can cause permanent loss of function to the affected limb
  • Road rash
  • Gruesome “de-gloving” injuries

American Veterinary Medical Association

AVMA - 71% of the veterinarians reported treating dogs for injuries sustained by falling or jumping from a cargo area of pickup trucks. This parentage does not take into account countless dogs that were killed and not treated.

  • PETA - "Crating deprives dogs of the opportunity to walk around, stretch out, and relax."

Truck Cap (Toppers)

  • Dogs still need to be visually monitored
